Adaptation Review: Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy by John Le Carre

I had been hesitant about doing movie reviews, since I am far from a movie expert, but it seems to me that adaptations are fair game.

Tinker Tailor was a fascinating reading experience, one that was humanized by the movie. The first three quarters of the book were a difficult read. If I had not had a outside desire to read the novel, I don’t think I would have finished it.

Why I Stop Reading

Magician: Apprentice is not going well. In fact, I can confidently say it’s responsible for my month long hiatus in new reading. (I’ll re-read old favourites when I’m struggling with a new novel, just to have something to read.) I’m determined to finish the book, if only to write a final review for this blog.

I don’t want to write specifics about the novel. I’ve got a mid-way review waiting to go up, and I’ll write a full review when I finish. But I think by looking at what disappoints me in this book, I can get some ideas about what makes for good fantasy. I came up with three disappointing qualities that make it hard for me finish a book.
